Mugham Center In 2005, the International Mugham Center was opened on Primorsky Boulevard in Baku, built in the shape of a tar, a Persian stringed plucked instrument that vaguely resembles a guitar. Once every two years, the international festival "World of Mugham" is held here. Mugam is the most famous genre of folk music in Azerbaijan. It represents chants to the accompaniment of string and wind instruments, which sound “oriental” to the ear of a European. In the USSR, at least some records with Azerbaijani folk music began to be released only in the 1970s, but mugham itself was in a semi-legal position. With the independence of the country, mugham is experiencing a new surge in popularity, and in 2008 UNESCO included it in the list of the oral and intangible cultural heritage of mankind.

The premises in the mansion of the famous industrialist Tagiyev were intended for exhibiting museum funds, where at that time there were government offices and a historical archive. In 1936, the museum was reorganized and transferred to the Azerbaijani branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences. Part of the exposition was placed in the palace of the Shirvanshahs. And in 1969, the museum remained the sole owner of Tagiev's mansion. Museum of Modern Art The Museum of Modern Art was opened in Baku in 2009, and the first lady of the country Mehriban Aliyeva became the initiator of its creation. One of the main principles of the museum is freedom and the absence of a rigidly set framework in expositions. It is also emphasized by the architecture of the building: the absence of corners, open passages, different angles of the walls. All this brings to mind a constant movement: at least, this is what the author of the architectural project, the creator of the expositions and the curator of the collection, the Azerbaijani artist Altay Sadykh-zade, intended. Even the two floors of the structure themselves seem to be an integral space connected by the “Forgotten Staircase”, which can also be called an art object. The free and open concept of the museum allows its visitors to get acquainted with the most diverse and unusual works. These are innovative works of Azerbaijani artists of the 1960-1970s. and with them the paintings of great contemporary masters such as Picasso, Dali, Chagall.
